Briana Teams Up With Somaly Mam Foundation

Are you familiar with the issue of human trafficking? Do you know that there are currently 27 million people toiling as modern day slaves around the globe? That women and children are sold to brothels, and threatened with violence or death if they try to escape?

Launched in 2007 by slavery survivor Somaly Mam, Somaly Mam Foundation is a nonprofit charity committed to ending modern day slavery around the world.

Briana has teamed up with SMF and is looking forward to working closer with them in the near future. Here's what she tweeted earlier:

"These are Akun braclets made by survivors of human trafficking rescued by Somaly Mam. 100 % proceeds go to Somaly Mam.  Can't wait to become a bigger part of the foundation ! I will hopefully be traveling to Cambodia soon but for now helping in LA best I can!"

To buy one of these amazing Akun bracelets, go to SMF's Empowerement store. Get one or two :) They're handmade bracelets, woven by survivors undergoing rehabilitation at the Tomdy Center in Phnom Penh. Why Akun? Akun is the Cambodian word for 'Thank You'. The price is $15 each (+ shipping, of course). Go buy one, show your support and help the victims of human trafficking! ;)

Update: If you live in L.A. and want to avoid the shipping fee, you can arrange a meeting with SMF's LA ambassador Jessica Diep to pick your bracelet. Email her at jdiepSMFLA@gmail.com
